Week #1 - First and Certainly Not Last

General / 29 September 2021

First off I’d like to thank you if you’re anyone other than myself who is reading these blog posts. I’ve debated on doing something like this for a very long time. I think it’s time to bite the bullet and just cave in.

I intend to make this blog as sort of a weekly update of what I have been doing with my art career. It’s for me to show myself that I do a lot more to benefit my career than I actually think. I am sure many of us, including myself, feel as though we are never doing enough. We are never achieving enough and could be doing much more. So these posts are merely a reminder that I am doing the most I can.

I haven’t decided how to break these sections up yet. Days? Classes? Who knows _/(._.)\_

For now I’ll try three categories: school, personal, and career. School is exactly what it sounds like. This only pertains to school as it relates to my major. Personal is for only personal work or personal art discoveries. This can be watching a video that I like to progress my skill. Or it can be simply that I started a personal project. I may also include what I have been inspired by lately. Last pertains to anything I have done to help shape my career. These are things such as updating my resume, portfolio, reaching out to employers, etc.

School

I created five, four panel comics. I made a color mock up but have not started the final coloring process. I plan to create one more comic strip, and replace it with a preexisting one. The goal is to have two finished strips by next class. The subject of the comic pertains to my own universe. I may talk about it in the future. For now, no spoilers.

I made some small sketches and comic panels in my sketchbook. Nothing serious, just something to keep the mind flowing.

I’ve created a sketch for Digital illustration. Based on Mucha’s piece 1896 Noel. The subject matter does not really match the original rendition by Mucha, but It’s really not supposed to. It depicts a Strix hanging over a woman's body. Reminds me of some of the old work I used to do. I will have to look for a better reference for wings.

Played around and tested some materials. I tried both watercolor and gouache with several types of papers and techniques. Next class is to recreate a picture using one of the materials given to us.
